Tulum Lace

Shirt, Forever 21. Top, old. Shorts, Gentle Fawn. Flats, Chinese Laundry. Purse, Marc Jacobs. Sunnies, Foster Grant.

The truth is I’m a total summer girl at heart and I won’t pretend to be someone else, not even for the sake of the blog. And by that I mean, that even though summer is officially over, my Fall strategy is to carry summer style outfits as far into Autumn as humanly possible (I say that because I get cold very easily).

What I typically do (weather permitting) is combine summer pieces that transition well into Autumn with Fall staples. The result, is something like this: a pair of Gentle Fawn tulum lace shorts with a laceup top, covered with a typical (and many times recycled) Fall style flannel shirt. Which is great for those chilly mornings and evenings, and easy enough to do without during the day.

Happy Friday and wish you all a lovely weekend!

Sunflowers

Bustier, Nasty Gal. Cutoffs, Signature 8 (Nasty Gal). Vest, H&M. Gladiators, The Shoe Company. Jewelry, Child of Wild. Shades, vintage. Hubby’s bolo tie.

Enjoying the last few days of summer in true free spirited, hippie style. We planned on getting lost for the day along unexplored roads. And so I dressed accordingly: floral bustier, denim cutoffs, long vest and gladiators. To accessorize the outfit I opted for a pair of John Lennon shades and my beau’s bolo tie.

Although we spent the whole day hanging outside nothing seemed to capture the proper vibe I was feeling. (And wanted to capture in the photos). Having always loved sunflowers I have memories of running through my grandfather’s endless fields of sunflowers as a child. He would always cut some down for me. But that is a memory far gone for a city dweller. As we continued on our adventure nothing seemed to please the background I had in mind so I said to my boyfriend: What does a girl have to do around here to find some sunflowers?? Would you believe me if I told you that as soon as we turned onto the next road we came upon this field?

Flamingos

Top, bebe (old). Skirt (here). Purse, Rebecca Minkoff. Sunnies, (here). Ring, Samantha Wills.

These poor flamingos have been cooped up in my closet for months now! I fell in love with this flamingo skirt the minute I saw it on the Chicwish website. However, when the skirt arrived I was quite surprised at just how long and pouffy the flamingo skirt turned out to be. While the skirt looked perfect on the model, on my short self the hem landed at pretty much my ankles. Not at all below the knees as most midis would. So of course I felt kinda silly when trying it on. The look on my boyfriend’s face when he saw it wasn’t comforting either. To be honest, that’s why it took me so long to wear it. I always envisioned pairing the flamingo skirt with cute flats but that wasn’t even an option in my case. Given the cut and pouff factor I was a bit nervous to wear it just anywhere. And so it waited for that perfect summer night out. I finally let the flamingos loose last week when we went out for Thai. Paired the skirt with a pair of caged heels and the skirt no longer looked as scary to me (as it did when it was on the hanger) after I wore it out. I think even my boyfriend was impressed after the fact.

Has this every happened to you? Where something you bought doesn’t look anything like you envisioned, but you found a way to make it work? Would love to hear your stories.
